Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works as a commentator for NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She graduated with an undergraduate degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing as a child in New York City. Mitchell began her career working as a TV and radio reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She joined the CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. Then she joined NBC News Washington two years following that as a general reporter. In 1981, she began covering at the White House, and in 1988, she was promoted to Chief Correspondent to Congress. She was promoted to Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell is a former panelist as well as anchor of the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist in the presidential debates in 1988 with George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004 The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering the White House in 1981-1988, both during Ronald Reagan's presidency. Her coverage included a variety of crucial stories such as the Iran-contra affair, the tax and budget reforms, as well as the arms control. Mitchell traveled extensively with President Reagan during summits along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
